Victoria Airport to Downtown Victoria: shuttle, taxi, bus — YYJ

YYJ is about 25 km north of downtown Victoria on the Saanich Peninsula. Here are your ground-transportation options, with the trade-offs, so you can pick what fits your trip.

Is there an airport shuttle at YYJ?

No — there is no scheduled shuttle bus running between Victoria International Airport and downtown on a timetable. The airport’s own ground-transportation page lists BC Transit, taxis, rideshare and car rentals, and no shuttle service among them.

What does make the trip: BC Transit routes 88 and 72 with one transfer — two single fares or a $6 CAD DayPASS, roughly an hour to ninety minutes; a metered taxi at around $65 by Yellow Cab's own estimate; Uber or Lyft, priced dynamically; or a booked door-to-door transfer at a flat rate from $25 CAD, about 30 minutes by road.

So “airport shuttle” in Victoria means a pre-booked transfer rather than a bus you catch at the curb — the price is fixed before you travel, and the pickup is timed to your flight.

Taxi

Available at the terminal, metered. Convenient on arrival but the fare varies with traffic and you don’t know the total in advance.

Uber / Lyft (rideshare)

Pickup at the curb by the Short Term Lot. Pricing is dynamic and rises at peak times and in bad weather, so the airport trip can cost more than expected.

BC Transit

Routes 88 and 72 reach downtown Victoria, with up to 28 departures a day between YYJ and McTavish Exchange — the timetable is BC Transit’s, so check theirs before you travel. A single fare is $3 and does not include the transfer, so the trip is two rides or a $6 DayPASS. Cheapest option, but with a change, stops and limited luggage space.

Car rental

Five agencies have counters in the arrivals area. Makes sense if you need a car for your whole stay, but adds parking and fuel costs.
